The History of M. Dumas & Sons
Since our foundation in 1917, M. Dumas & Sons has evolved into an iconic men’s specialty retailer in historic downtown Charleston, S.C.
First opened by Mendel Dumas, the store initially functioned as a military uniform outfitters. It soon became the sole provider of uniforms for naval officers stationed in the seaside town, as well as offering an expansive array of hunting and outdoor apparel. In the 1960's, M. Dumas & Sons became known for their fashion denim. Tommy Bahama was added to the store's ever-growing inventory in 1993, which symbolizes the ever-growing variety of products seen in store today.
In the fall of 2015, M. Dumas & Sons completed a $2 million renovation of its iconic store, solidifying its position as the Town and Country clothier of the Low-country.
Today, Charleston locals and tourists alike still consider M. Dumas & Sons a welcoming, historic King Street specialty retailer who is a permanent staple of the city’s landscape.
108 years later, M. Dumas & Sons is still family-owned and offers customers one of the widest assortment of men’s specialty store brands in America. They are known for their southern hospitality, bespoke tailored suiting, and large variety.
